Album Release - JARRAD POWELL: MUSIC FOR SOLO GUITAR

Guitarist SATCHEL HENNEMAN performs compositions for classical guitar and resophonic guitar in just intonation. The album is a premiere recording of new compositions (Prelude Harmonic, Five Variations, and Chant) by Powell, as well as insightful arrangements for guitar of pieces originally written for piano and koto (Islands and Falconer Suite). The resophonic pieces are striking in their use of that guitar’s penetrating timbre and vibrant attack. The classical guitar pieces explore standard tunings like Drop D, as well as other open string tunings that serve to further modify the range and timbre of the instrument. The album is the product of a concerted collaboration between guitarist Henneman and composer Powell over the last several years.
